1. Initially I thought that this book is really well written. I can tell that the author is really passionate about following this young man's adventure. I'm still trying to decide weather or not I sympathise with Alex or not. He seems like such a likable guy but he is a bit naive. The authors writ ting style seems a bit journalistic, but the fact that he Incorporated his own experiences makes it a emotional story.
2. Chris is someone who wants to be liberated from his restring ties of money and obligations. He however is a bit naive when it comes to what it actually takes to live out in the wild. He only came into the woods with a bag of rice and a small amount of supplies, and the wrong kind of hunting gun. He thought he was invincible when really he was just ill prepared.
3. I think the author is trying to say that we all feel the need to escape. We need to have individuality and our own thoughts or else we are going to be trapped in our robotic body. We need to break free of the social conformity and be ourselves.
4. This book reminds me of Hatchet kind of. Although Alex did choose to be in the wild, he still has a difficulty with the wilderness. He is only a boy and still is unsure of the world around him.
5. I identify with Alex and the story because sometimes I ask myself, why am I doing what I'm doing? Do I really want to be tediously calculating random math equations or nannying for three kids everyday after school? Or am i just programed to do that because I thought that, that was just what you had to do. All I am doing is going through the motions and waisting my life with something that I am not completely passionate about.
6. The world has the same issues as Alex and I have. They feel the need to conform and be what the world expects them to be. They hardly choose what they want in life.
